“Frost… sometimes it make to locks stick…”

Found that when its particularly freezing over night – we’ve had minus 4 in Co.Durham since the weekend – the central locking refuses to unlock the next morning.

This is not the usual problem of the coupe door sticking - the car just won’t unlock. I can hear the usual internal noises when I use the remote but nothing else happens. Twice now I’ve had to unlock the boot with the key and clamber in that way, dropping the back seat and forcing the car to unlock on the interior door handle.

I’ve not managed to get the key in the door lock to try to unlock it manually, as I’ve usually been pressed for time and the lock was also frozen up

I thought it might be moisture on the stalk freezing up in the door card so put some wd40 on it last night, but to no avail.

I wonder it its air pressure related – the air get so cold, condenses too much and wont operate the locking mechanism.

Just curious if anyone else has had this problem – it will obviously go as we get past this cold snap and spring finally arrives, but been a right p.i.t.a this week!

(oh and apologies for the bad Gladiator mis-quote )

Alreet neighbour! had similar prob on coupe, been heating the key and leaving it in the lock for. Couple of minutes beforw working it manually. Have resorted to leaving a rubber paint protector sheet ( the ones that good garages put on to stop the paint getting scratched) which works ok.

My Avant suffered from it a few times when it was very cold.
Spraying WD40 into the locks sorted it

Locks were the next thing I was going to try but I didnt think it was that long since I greased them - but they are the most likey culprit

Looks like milder, wetter weather on the way from tonight but I'll get the WD40 on the locks anyway!

I had a thread on this last year In the handbook it tells of heated door locks, but it's never worked on any of the coupes I've owned

If anyone is interested I will be putting together some heated lock sets which are extremely easy to fit.

All come out of breaker cars so much cheaper than buying the bits individually, will be circa £50 per kit.
